Worm, tick and flea treatment, Geelong
Where left untreated, worm, tick and flea infestations can cause anything from mild discomfort for an animal to illness and even death in the case of worms or ticks.
Fleas
The only way to win the war against fleas is to follow an effective flea control program. As with worming, you will need to be consistent about flea treatment for the entirety of your pets’ life.
Flea treatment for dogs and flea treatment for cats and other pets involves regular application of topical insecticides, usually once a month. Dr Brown will advise you on the most effective flea treatment for your pet.
Ticks
There are a number of species of ticks that can cause serious harm to your dog and the best advice we can give you is to avoid them.
Preventing tick paralysis is a much cheaper and safer option than having to treat the condition once an animal has been affected by tick poison.
Thankfully, tick prevention for dogs is simple and easy and can often be combined with your flea prevention with a once-a-month treatment.
Worming
Puppies
It is important to start worming puppies when they are very young as worms can have a serious effect on the health of your puppy. Generally, we advise puppies being wormed every two weeks until they are 12 weeks of age. They should then be wormed monthly until they are six months of age and every three months from the age of six months onwards.
Intestinal worms in puppies and dogs can also be transferred to the rest of the family. Children are particularly susceptible due to their underdeveloped immune systems and lower levels of hygiene.
Dogs
Dog worming treatments prevent worms, but they do not kill worms. As a result we advise that you de-worm your dog on a regular basis as well as carrying out preventative treatment.
Mobile Vet Geelong can visit you at your home and offer advice and a treatment plan for your dog or cat to protect them against fleas, ticks and worms in and around the Geelong region.
